Question 1

What is DrawNet.ai?

Accepted Answer

DrawNet.ai is a free, browser-based network diagram tool powered by AI. You can create professional network topologies by dragging and dropping devices or by describing your network in plain English.

Question 2

Do I need an account to use DrawNet.ai?

Accepted Answer

No. DrawNet.ai requires no sign-up or login. All your data is stored locally in your browser. You can start designing immediately.

Question 3

What export formats does DrawNet.ai support?

Accepted Answer

DrawNet.ai supports export to PNG, SVG, PDF, and Visio-compatible (.vsdx) formats.

Question 4

Is DrawNet.ai free?

Accepted Answer

Free for personal use — individuals, homelabs, students, teachers and nonprofits pay nothing, for the whole tool, with no premium tier and no limits; exports carry a small Made with drawnet.ai line, removable for 4.90 EUR per diagram or with a licence. Commercial use, meaning diagrams made as part of paid work for an employer or a client, needs a licence: 49 EUR per user per year, or 249 EUR per year for a whole organisation, excluding VAT. It runs on the honour system — no account and no feature locked either way; the licence comes with a key whose only effect is to remove the export watermark.

Question 5

Can DrawNet.ai replace my Excel port patching spreadsheet?

Accepted Answer

Yes. DrawNet.ai is the only diagram tool that lets you connect devices port by port. Each switch displays all physical ports, so your diagram IS your patching documentation. No more maintaining a separate Excel spreadsheet.

Question 6

Does DrawNet.ai show individual switch ports?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Unlike Visio or draw.io where switches are simple icons, DrawNet.ai displays every physical port on each device. You can connect specific ports (e.g., port 3 on Switch A to port 12 on Switch B) and see exactly which port links where.

Question 7

How does Tidy Links work in DrawNet.ai?

Accepted Answer

Tidy Links is DrawNet.ai's one-click auto-routing feature. Click the Tidy Links button and every cable is instantly rerouted with clean, orthogonal (right-angle) paths. It uses A* pathfinding to avoid device collisions, prevents cables from overlapping, and spaces parallel lines automatically. You can lock individual links or devices to exclude them from re-routing.

Question 8

Is DrawNet.ai a good alternative to Visio for network diagrams?

Accepted Answer

Yes. DrawNet.ai is specifically designed for network diagrams and goes beyond Visio by showing individual switch ports. It's free, requires no installation or account, runs in the browser, and exports to Visio-compatible .vsdx format. It also includes AI diagram generation that Visio doesn't offer.

Question 9

Is DrawNet.ai here to stay? What happens to my diagrams if it disappears?

Accepted Answer

DrawNet.ai is published by CYZEA SAS, a French company registered in Paris on 1 March 2021 (SIREN 895 162 600) and trading ever since. More importantly, nothing you draw depends on us being here: diagrams are stored in your browser and saved as plain JSON files on your own disk, never on our servers, and they export to PNG, SVG, PDF, Visio VSDX, CSV and Excel — formats other tools already read. There is no account to be locked out of, so a diagram made today stays openable whatever happens to the publisher.

Question 10

Can I use AI to generate a network diagram?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Describe your network in plain English (e.g., '2 switches with 24 ports, connected to 8 PCs and a server') and DrawNet.ai's AI generates the complete diagram with proper device placement and port connections in seconds.
